On behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade & Export Development extends heartfelt appreciation to the Caribbean Community in the United Kingdom, especially our Grenadian brothers and sisters, on the 75th Anniversary of “Windrush Day”.
As you celebrate the accomplishments of your personal journey from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom, this day provides an opportunity to reflect on the challenges you overcame and continue to overcome, and the achievements made in the Diaspora and here at home, since the arrival of the first group of Caribbean people aboard the Empire Windrush, 75 years ago on 22 June 1948.
Grenada deeply values the initiative and perseverance of those who answered the call to migrate to the United Kingdom to help rebuild the economy after World War II and in the process, help their families back in the region. The sacrifices made continue to have a tremendous impact on our lives, culture, and history, and we are forever indebted.
Your resilience and determination opened doors for future generations to achieve success at home and abroad and have helped to expand our Caribbean Culture around the world.
Best wishes and continued peace and prosperity to our Grenadian Diaspora community in the United Kingdom.

There was no initiative and perseverance of those who answered the call to migrate to the United Kingdom to help rebuild the economy after World War II Windrush was a privately owned troopship returning to the UK with spaces to spare and so sold those spaces to unemployed Jamaicans. Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story
