The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives informs the public that the St George’s Meat Market has been relocated to its former location on Melville Street, opposite the Fish Market.
The current location has been closed, and service will be provided at the newly refurbished Meat Market on Melville Street from Friday, 5 August 2022.
This new and improved facility will allow the butchers/vendors to continue to provide safe and healthy meat in a comfortable environment for butchers, customers and staff.

For many years I stopped buying meat in the meat market but recently upon hearing of the improvements at Maribeau slaughterhouse I started buying meat again at Melville St. However, a few weeks ago I bought some pork and very disappointed about the smell of the meat and that smell suggested that the pork was not frozen but was chilled and remained chilled for sometime. I am appealing to the Ministry of health to please monitor these facilities with a desire to continue the up grading of the quality of the product that is offered for public consumption. New refurbished facility require new thinking as a part of the upward mobility so maybe the introduction of specific cuts of meats will signal to the public that they can now have the beautiful cuts as they be desired
