Great to see Ariza hiring. However, as a Grenadian I will challenge Ariza to be a leader in promoting land ownership in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. As it stands right now no financial institutions in Grenada has any policy or is mandated to make land ownership possible for most Grenadians.
Just like all financial institutions, Ariza is driven by profits and is expected to have management that contribute to its financial viability.
On the other hand, the current loan criteria creates a barrier to land ownership. I have perused a few credit unions loan requirements in Grenada and other Caribbean Islands and found they requirements are an impediment for land ownership. It seems the credit uniin policies are outdated and colonial. I don’t think the credit unions have financial programs to offer loans greater than $1000. The way it is structured one will get the impression that Credit Union don’t believe it members can afford to borrow more than $1000 at a time.
This create a viscous cycle of poverty as most members does not have assets to put up for a loan. However, the credit union can help break that cycle by working with members to make easier to achieve land ownership.
Increase land ownership can also increase economic activities as new land owners can engage in more business.
