If you are unvaccinated (and eligible), then you knowingly contributed to this problem. Full stop.
So all you blaming everyone except yourself should stop and think why you didn’t do what was asked of you, when you had the opportunity?
People of beautiful Grenada,
Please ,please, please, get a vaccin. No need for this lockdown, no need for the growing poverty, no need for the fear. Just get your vaccin. I know. It is not a fully protection against getting ill, but our loved ones wil not die! Your beloved grandparents or even your parents will be out of the danger zone.
Please!
Our community is paying for it. We want to help!
Please get it
While vaccination does reduce risk, there are prophylactics that have extremely good track records, and vaccinated people can be infected, and can infect others. So let’s not brand the unvaccinated as spreaders of the contagion.
Although no one should deliberately catch COVID if it happens and you survive your immunity is 13 times stronger than vaccine created immunity according to a study from Israel which is the vaccine leader of the World.
Happy to see that the 1st dose vaccinated number broke 28,000. Let’s get vaccinated for the sake of your family, friends and frontline workers!
The numbers for people who get vaccinated are stagnating since more than a week. If that remains so, we will soon have another variant of covid with the next greek letter in the alphabet. I think it’s epsilon. What is happening in Grenada. Are we waiting for the epsilon variant to strike? All this talk about watching the numbers won’t help us. Convince your family, your friends, your neigbours and everyone you know to go and take the vaccine.
Don’t take your eyes off the real issue here and remember that the stats given are from the government.
Look at the jump in deaths also people being hospitalized and all because we started testing our locals which should have taken place a year ago to make sure that our citizens were covid free.
They will now put the cause of this increase on events that took place during the carnival season which is not totally true.
As of the first week in August Grenada had recorded only one death which was imported but the uptake with the vaccine was very low with just over 20% of the population and that was not what WHO wanted at this time so they allegedly had to put pressure on the government to get their citizens to take the vaccine to reach the required figure of 80%
Maybe you also believe that Elvis and Tupac are alive and were abducted by aliens.
The real issue here is preventing needless suffering and death. Made up conspiracy theories and misinformation do not help.
I know what you mean (there should have been community testing all along), but we simply did not see this level of infection before — even with that flu earlier this year (which didn’t test positive on covid tests — it wasn’t covid). It seems like every is sick right now, as it’s clearly running rampant in a naive population.
What this means is that we are still looking at the beginning of a big curve that will likely surpass the Cholera epidemic in the 1850s.
Wow. Your idea of the real issue is contrary to global facts.
Get vaccinated. There is no Grenadan government conspiracy. No conspiracy in every single country on the planet. It is a health emergency, and if you care about your loved ones, wear a mask, social distance, get vaccinated.
Vaccinations are not a new idea. And as far as its efficacy, over 5 Billion people have gotten inoculated. (1 billion is a million million). Do some research.
Get vaccinated. Its the right thing to do. Protect your loved ones.
Figures are a bit off:
1. One billion (1,000,000,000) is a thousand million.
2. More than 5 billion doses have been administered, but most vaccines require 2 doses: more than 3 billion have received at least 1 dose, and more than 2 billion are considered fully vaccinated.
I completely agree with Observer & completely agree ADM is an ignorant twat.
Points to note: 1) In Israel 60% of those hospitalized were fully vaccinated (2 weeks after 2nd shot) 2) Study by CDC in the US showed that in a community of 64% vaccination 74% of those testing positive were fully vaccinated. 3) There exists effective multi-drug ambulatory treatment proven to reduce deaths and hospitalization by 85% but this is not recognized and doctors are afraid to use it for fear of losing their license. The FDA and ministries of health have even made it more difficult for people at risk to get their hands on these drugs. If this is recognized there would be no use for emergency use authorization of a vaccine. 4) The mRNA vaccine down regulates the innate immunity of the recipients causing them to develop antibodies to SARS-COV2 specifically but not the variants making them susceptible to the variants 5) The CDC admits that the PCR test cannot distinguish between SARS-COV-2 and Influenza and plan to replace it in December 2021. 6) Only 10% of the deaths attributed to COVID-19 were solely due to COVID-19, most others involved at least 1 co-morbidity. 7) A study done in Vietnam showed that the vaccinated breakthrough cases had 251 times the number of viruses in their nose than the unvaccinated.
“PCR tests, including the one developed by the CDC, are highly accurate and are able to differentiate between SARS-CoV-2 and influenza… a COVID-19 test will not be positive if a person really has influenza, and vice versa.”

It’s quite sad indeed. Now a fact of history.. and I believe history should be a teacher. In 2007 in the USA the use of PCR tests to diagnose whooping cough resulted in a fake epidemic. So I really can’t understand such statements that indicate PRC tests are the gold standard. “You cannot imagine,” Dr. Talbot said. “I had a feeling at the time that this gave us a shadow of a hint of what it might be like during a pandemic flu epidemic.”
Yet, epidemiologists say, one of the most troubling aspects of the pseudo-epidemic is that all the decisions seemed so sensible at the time.”
See article https://archive.is/MdDCX#selection-655.0-663.140
They are discontinuing using the PCR in the Autumn because it CANNOT differentiate between flue an the virus. Also the PCR is a most unreliable test never intended according to its inventor to be used as a diagnostic tool in patients, it was only meant to be used in production processes. Also it is being used to create cases, as in the USA and most if not all of Europe they have been multiplying the sample out to 35 ah 40 times. Which creates a 99-100% false positive rate. They should never multiply beyond 25 times. We should be told what the ct level is of any positive test. (Cycle Threashold).
THIS IS FALSE NEWS. The PCR test is pretty specific to covid19 so it doesn’t detect influenza. The CDC recall is to do with replacing the test with a multiplexed one that can look for influenza as well as covid so you don’t need a second test for influenza if the covid test comes back negative. The Israel paper is flawed. Israel has 60% of it’s total poulation and 85% of adults vaccinated, the recent outbreak started in schools among unvaccinated children who spread it on, countries with high vaccination will see mostly vaccinated people getting ill. You must be scraping the antivax barrel to come up with a study in Vietnam which has less than 4% of its population fully vaccinated. Go and blog on Kesri Johnson’s channel for like-minded antivaxxerrs instead of spreading your rubbish around elsewhere
Shall I call you a provaxxer then? Then again I am sure Dr. Josef Mengele was pro-extermination of the Jews and forced experimentation similar to what is going on today-contrart to the Nuremberg Code. So your labels don’t refute anything. I provided reference to studies and you find fault with them. That’s your choice but when people resort to Ad hominem attacked they are lacking in arguments. You care to comment on the Absolute risk Reduction vis-a-vis Relative Risk Reduction of the vaccines. See paper “COVID-19 vaccine efficacy and effectiveness—the elephant (not) in the room” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8057721/. How about the paper by McCullough et al on “Multifaceted highly targeted sequential multidrug treatment of early ambulatory high-risk SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19)”

Or how about this one from the Executive Editor of the BMJ “Covid-19: politicisation, “corruption,” and suppression of science” https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4425
The BMJ Anti vaxx?
Instead of trying to sound smart, why don’t you focus on what can practically help Grenadians now. When hospitals run out of space and the designated committee has to choose who gets the next open spot and who dies, you still going to focus on the theoretical difference (that I don’t believe you fully understand yourself) between vaccine trial RRR and ARR? Vaccines available are past the trial stages. Why not use your “critical thinking” to help people protect themselves? It’s dark time in Grenada’s history, covid positives are dying every day. You say history should be a teacher. Once this wave has passed do you want to look back at history and see that you were a helpful light? Or a quagmire that stood between people and life saving vaccines? Stop endangering lives.
“Study by CDC in the US showed that in a community of 64% vaccination 74% of those testing positive were fully vaccinated.”
I’ve seen this quoted so many times from the anti-vax crowds it’s laughable. The saddest part about it, Mr. Critical Thinker, is that not one of those persons has read the article that the quote is sourced from. Here is a pertinent quote from the article “In July 2021, following multiple large public events in a Barnstable County, Massachusetts, town, 469 COVID-19 cases were identified among Massachusetts residents who had traveled to the town during July 3–17; 346 (74%) occurred in fully vaccinated persons. ” https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7031e2.htm
The quote references a study specifically designed to observe the spread of delta variant in mixed vaccinated and unvaccinated populations in the setting of LARGE PUBLIC GATHERINGS. This further validates the restrictions and advice from the Ministry of Health regarding avoidance of public gatherings. The entire point of the study is to prove that the vaccines are only one layer of protection, and common sense public safety measures such as masking, hand washing, avoiding sharing indoor spaces, avoiding public gatherings are also layers of protection.
Lies, lies & more lies. Why do some people take pleasure in spreading misinformation & contributing to increased numbers of Covid infection?
Ok CriticalThinker, wasn’t going to bother but I’ll address your points in order:
1) Critically think about how numbers work. If a gunman shoots into a crowd where 80% of the crowd had bullet proof vests and 20% didn’t, he will hit more people with bulletproof vests. Israel has a higher number of vaccinated people infected because Israel has a high number of vaccinated people. However, since vaccines still help the body fight the disease and prevent death, Israel’s death rate hasn’t risen as much as their past waves before delta and vaccinations. The delta variant is so bad that it infects and puts vaccinated people in the hospital, imagine what it does to the unvaccinated. No need to imagine, look at the latest deaths where the population has both vaccinated and unvaccinated – the vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths are among the unvaccinated. As well Israel has a better resourced medical system than Grenada, Carriacou & Petit Martinique. They are able to keep more hospitalized individuals alive via hospital care. Grenada does not have the same level of resources, so health facilities in this country will be overwhelmed sooner. How does this “point” you are making help Grenada?
2) I defer to the response by CoVid Conscious and will add that no one in this study that you cherry picked died. Because vaccination. Vaccination is why these days we don’t worry much about polio, measles, mumps and other diseases that devastated human populations in the past. Again, what’s your point? To convince people to not get vaccinated? When vaccination saves lives?
3) I live with a doctor who treats covid patients in the US. This doctor has had unvaccinated hospitalized patients who self-treated with vitamin C, vitamin D, ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, you name it. A lot of them still had to be intubated and some died. You know how many vaccinated people this doctor treated that died so far? Zero.
“Multi-drug ambulatory treatment” – I agree that this approach warrants more study and large scale testing so as to potentially add another tool in the fight against covid. Different therapeutics have their own individual side effects and combining them can cause unexpected results, so this needs to be properly studied and large scale tested just like existing vaccines have been. I’m going to say that again – just like existing vaccines have been. It’s right to limit access to certain drugs; some drugs are prescription only because of their potential damage if used improperly. If medical authorities aren’t yet clear on the proper combination, dosage, timing, order, clinical context, etc. that these treatments can be effectively used for in treating covid, how will the average person? Do you have some kind of secret large scale study, along with trials and efficacy measures the world doesn’t know about? The paper you linked says none exist. You really want grandma popping pills on that list to see what happens? Presently US docs already employ appropriate multi-drug treatments for covid patients depending on what’s specifically happening with the patient, including intravenous medication, corticosteroids, antiplatelet agents/anticoagulants, supportive care w/ supplemental oxygen, monitoring and telemedicine. You expect individuals to manage all of the above on their own? While there’s no official guideline because a multi-drug therapy has not yet been properly vetted? That would be in the category of experimental and you seem concerned that vaccines are experimental. And who will be on the other side of a Grenadian telemedicine line if hospitals are overwhelmed and short-staffed? The purpose of this multi-drug ambulatory treatment you are touting is to prevent hospitalizations and deaths. Large-scale tested, placebo controlled, randomized trial-ed vaccines already do that, are free for the general public and are available now. People are getting infected and vulnerables are dying now.
4) So far mRNA vaccines still help with all the existing variants of concern, even delta. You want to encourage continued unfettered infection? And wait for a worse variant? Delta is bad enough.
5) Nigel responded with good references but apparently you either didn’t read it or get it.
6) Lord. Those with comorbidities who died would be alive today if not for covid. Not to mention the number of healthy people dying is also too high, even as a “10%” statistic. Comorbidities include diabetes, asthma, heart disease, obesity, etc. and a lot of elderly have weakened immune systems… know anyone with one of those? Bet you do. People did not have to lose their grandparents, parents, children, siblings/relatives or friends prematurely. Grenada just lost a young lady to this virus, her life barely begun. Do you think it makes a difference to her loved ones if it was 100% due to covid or part covid, part comorbidity?
7) Man, just stop. This is the kind of twisting of facts and figures that will potentially cost people who listen to you their health or their lives. If not them directly, then vulnerable people connected to them.
https://apnews.com/article/fact-checking-275980853664
I’m legitimately wondering if endangering people is your purpose.
And so it begins indeed…But based on recent research August 3rd to September 3rd. In Israel, based on confirmed cases. Immunity in the recovered and NOT vaccinated is much stronger that 2-dose Pfizer (recent or early vaccinated) individuals. Likewise, recovered and vaccinated ( Hybrid immunity )is also very strong. comparable to 3-dose ( that is your two dose plus the booster). The conclusion therefore is that Immunity in recovered Covid-19 patients is as good as vaccine induce immunity.
The result if this finding is available for research if so required, including you Editor of Now Grenada…
You bring up some interesting points, ADM. Would you be willing to provide some more information on the statistical probability of dying from Covid in unvaccinated vs vaccinated individuals? Everything that I have read seems to indicate the likelihood of death is much, much higher in unvaccinated individuals than those who are fully immune from a complete dosing regimen (two weeks after the final dose of the vaccine regimen).
So, in your opinion, everyone should take a chance on Covid, instead of getting a scientifically proved vaccine? Take a chance on death, rather than a sore arm???
So what are you recommending for the people of Grenada? You are ok with over a thousand people needlessly dying on the island so that some people can get “better” immunity through natural infection? Based on a study with a small sample size, and does not take into account infected people who recover but suffer from long covid?
Using the US as an example, mortality rate BEFORE VACCINES was 1.7%. Again BEFORE VACCINES. According to the Grenada vaccination figures above, 17.5% of the population are fully vaccinated. Grenada’s population at last count is around 112,000 ppl. 112,000-17.5% = 92,400 unvaccinated. If all these unvaccinated ppl got “natural infection” from the original strain of covid, 1.7% of those 92,400 would still have died. That figure is 1,580 people. That’s ok with you? It’s a small island, if that much people die chances are you’d probably know one of them. Add to the mix that the variant circulating on the island is more infectious and twice as likely to cause serious illness, are you seriously advocating for people to go for natural infection without the protection of a vaccine? If you get infected and are excited about getting “stronger” immunity after recovery, that won’t help you if you die because you are genetically predisposed to having a serious reaction, or have diabetes, or a suppressed immune system due to cancer, or elderly, or because the hospitals were overwhelmed and you couldn’t get oxygen in time. And what if you recover but are one of those who end up with a lingering health issue because of long covid? God forbid you spread the infection to someone vulnerable around you who is susceptible to dying. Is the price the island has to pay for “natural immunity” via infection – in deaths and lingering illness numbering in the thousands – really ok with you? You don’t want to do your part to prevent that?
Well done, Observer. You’ve cut thru’ all the blather to describe the situation facing Grenada and the Sister Isles far better than anyone else has managed so far. Let’s hope your message gets thru’ to those dithering over the vaccine in time to alter those grim statistics. Herd immunity is not the way forward; the human cost is too high.
You realize that all the “variants of concern” now that are worse than the original strain evolved in parts of the world where the population had rampant infection and 0 to minimal vaccine uptake right? The more the virus spreads, the more chances it has to mutate. That’s what viruses do. Vaccines cut short the amount of time the virus survives in your body if you get infected, hence lowering damage it does to your body as well as the chances for mutation. Reality is Grenada is now dealing with widespread delta variant circulation… even if you were ok with 1,500+ Grenadians dying as a price for “natural immunity” you don’t have a time machine that where you can go back and spread the original strain of covid around the island. What’s in Grenada now is a more infectious and deadlier variant, and promoting natural infection in this reality is dangerous for a lot of people. Why not do your part in preventing vulnerable people from needlessly dying, and also lessen the chance of virus mutation?
I do agree that people who have had Covid & recovered from it & then get vaccinated have a higher immune response than vaccination alone, but that is a stupid reason to not get vaccinated in the first place. Why take the risk that you will become seriously ill or die? Just get vaccinated.
And so… it begins.
