Grenada has recorded 2 more cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s total to 188.
The 2 cases, returning nationals in their 40s, were confirmed on Saturday, 14 August. One case is hospitalised and is in stable condition, while the other is in isolation.
The pair arrived in Grenada on 4 August, with the required negative PCR test no more than 72 hours prior to travel, and tested negative on arrival at the Maurice Bishop International Airport. They were medically cleared subsequent to the receipt of their results.
The positive cases were identified during exit testing on Friday, as the two were preparing for the return leg of their trip.
The Ministry of Health has started contact tracing efforts. So far, a number of contacts have been identified and will be tested in the coming days. Further contact tracing and testing will continue.
The first case among the local population in 2021, was also identified on Friday, 13 August. The individual who works in the hospitality sector did not travel recently. His condition is stable.
Speaking against the backdrop of an increasing number of cases identified during exit testing, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Shawn Charles encouraged Grenadians to maintain the recommended protocols.
He said, “The fact that our borders are open means that there is the likelihood of receiving positive cases as visitors and returning nationals travel from places with higher rates of infection. Our best shot at protecting ourselves from any potential spread within the local population is compliance with the protocols and getting vaccinated. While no measure is 100% effective, the protocols and vaccination can help to reduce our chances of contracting the virus and experiencing serious symptoms if we do in fact become infected. The power is within each and every one of us to do what we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
At present, Grenada has 14 active cases, 13 of which are imported, and 1 import-related.

we can look no further than Israel to show that one of the most vaccinated countries in the world is having a major outbreak to the point where sweden has closed its borders to Israel. As most of you know the science is never settled and what was once all unvaccinated people were the majority of people occupying hosptials is no longer the case. In many hospitals across the world, it is starting to increase with vaccinated individuals sometimes making up 40% of the beds. We are in a dangerous spot while continue to push vaccinations that protected people from the first strain but have seem to not only weaken but could be a reason for other variants spreading. we need to stop the notion that vacciantion will end covid because it will not and ultimately will contribute to more deaths and an unstoppable variant that will be resistant to vaccination. The health department needs to take a stand and listen to doctors treating covid with other protocols such as monoclonal antibody cocktails, ivermectin, inhalers, oxygen etc. This is going to take a massive effort of every protocol out there to finally beat this.
You can not hide form the virus, the ONLY thing that you can do is to get the FULL vaccine series NOW ! you will be protected 2 weeks after the second dose, or if the one dose vaccine then 2 weeks after that dose. Skeptics are helping the virus. STOP being a SKEPTIC … Grenada needs people like people need Grenada . Roll up and lets move on !!!!
It is totally u true that more than half of the deaths in the UK were fully vaccinated persons. Over 100,000 deaths took place before the vaccine was approved for use. Today’s deaths nationwide were 129 which confirms that deaths have been drastically reduced since people got vaccinated and it has enabled daily life to resume – still with some mask wearing, and social distancing but the economy is fully open.
I’ve recently returned from Grenada as I had some business to attend to, but all the PCR tests are expensive as is quarantine, and Approval for Travel forms are a nightmare to complete. The hotel I stayed had a total of 7 guests. No business can run when it’s losing money every day. If hotel workers want their jobs back, then there is no alternative but to get vaccinated and for Grenada to relax quarantine regulations. Because I was double vaccinated I did not have to quarantine when I returned to UK from Grenada, just do a test on Day 2. It was negative.
It is obvious that the virus is among the population. The case of the returning visitor is clear indication of that. Came in with negative test, tested negative on airport but positive when about to depart. I know that the swab testing in Grenada is good because the nurses swab deep inside the nasal passage. This is a clear indication that one of the persons or persons this individual mingled with has the virus. Many Grenadians are not listening. Mask up, social distance and stop being idiotic. Some are poking fun at those who wearing their masks. The buses have very little ventilation and yet very few are wearing masks. It’s time to mandate mask wearing on the buses.
Yep officials need to stop passing corvid 19 cases off as asthma and upper respiratory illnesses
Isn’t it ironic that the spreaders are now amongst the vaccinated. As we already know, being vaccinated does not stop you from catching Covid or it’s variant, not does it prevent you from spreading it. That said, what is our option. Close our borders and suffer the economical consequences or operate the same protocol for the vaccinated? It is obviously proving that 48 hrs is nonsensical.
“The fact that our borders are open means that there is the likelihood of receiving positive cases”… Oh really? What a surprise! We don’t have ANY capacity to deal with even a modest surge in cases but “come onecome all” is our policy? By now it should have dawned on us that our border protocols are full of holes but we continue to use them – against the much more contagious Delta strain! What is the logic in this? Oh. I forgot:: we need the money and are prepared to risk citizens lives for it.
The more that local people of Grenada are vaccinated the lesser the risk of them being infected.
Get vaccinated its our only chance. O
ur economy cannot function with heavy border restrictions and our medical facilities cannot cope with large numbers of serious cases
Steups. I fed up with MoH and these storeis about positive test when people leaving island. The virus takes several days to manifest. People need to be in quarantine at least 7 days. Stop this 48 hours S***. You are increasing the populations risk of the virus.
if you are so worried I seriously hope that you are vaccinated?
Vaccination is the only way out of this – quarantine is not practicable – simply watch what is happening in the rest of the world..
Most people only get 10 days holiday, they will not come to Grenada if they have to quarantine for 7 days as you suggest & 10 to 14 days as others suggest. With the borders open there will be more cases. The only solution is to get vaccinated.
Well it’s time employers factor this in and change there holiday policies just like with other things the world has had to change and adapt to this new normal.
No one should feel forced to vaccinate because a government sees tourism as their only source of income.
It’s common sense to quarantine for several days to catch the virus early on so that there is a reduced risk of transmitting the virus locally.
You stated that the only solution to more cases is to get vaccinated which is a very uniformed statement. More than half of deaths in the UK were of fully vaccinated people. Vaccination will not stop the spread of the virus, please do remember that.
