3 more cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Grenada, bringing the total to date to 185.
Case #183 is similar to case #170, in that the individual arrived with a negative PCR test, was tested on arrival, and medically cleared from quarantine based on test results, and later tested positive when preparing for departure.
The 45-year-old male, a returning national, arrived on 4 August, and was cleared on 6 August. His departure PCR test was conducted on 11 August and the Ministry of Health has since verified the positive result with a second test. The Ministry of Health has since launched contact tracing efforts. The travel companion of case #183 has also been tested but that result is negative.
Providing a possible explanation for cases #170 and #183, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shawn Charles said, “There are a number of possibilities that could explain that situation. The persons could have become infected after their PCR test and secondly, their viral load could have been too low at the time of testing to be detected, but would have risen high enough to be measured in subsequent testing. The scenario helps to underscore the fact that we must maintain the recommended protocols. Particularly wearing our masks, avoiding mass gatherings and sanitising our hands frequently.”
The 2 other cases are also imported. One was detected at the main port of entry in Grenada and the other in Carriacou.
Grenada currently has 12 active cases of Covid-19.

I wish people would stop saying the LETHAL DELTA VARIANT, it is certainly more transmissible than the ALPHA variant (the original COVID), but there is no evidence that the Delta is more lethal than the Alpha one. This is just putting unnecessary fear into people.
We have to accept we are going to have to learn to live with this virus, just like influenza………or we will be under lockdowns/state of emergencies for the rest of our lives and many businesses will just not survive. Then you will have more deaths from the likes of poverty, suicides etc. than from Covid.
Also I hear people referring to the lack of medical facilities here, incase of an outbreak of Covid. This government should have got the Chinese to build a new hostpital in the last 18 months, easy, they have have been given funds to help for Covid, but no, they have done absolutely nothing like that for the Grenadian people. You can guarantee Keith Mitchell will blame the Grenadian people if we do get community spread and the hostpital can not cope.
Well for quite a while I kept saying that one there will be a false negative test.. so how many places did this individual visit.
Grenada stopped encircled persons to get tested months ago. There is NO REASON for Grenada to be telling locals they have to PAY to be TESTED for covid. As a public health matter there is no charge for testing in any other country for residents.
You now have mitchel wanting to WASTE 40 MILLION DOLLARS on debushment when these monies were granted and borrowed for covid. That means the safety of the locals , health care and prevention of the virus FIRST . Anyone with symptoms even mild ones should be tested for free and now.
The original lockdown last year worked to start with, but no testing hives a false sense of security.
I lost two loved ones to covid. One at the very beginning when no one knew what it was and one a year later when they were being incredibly careful but somehow got sick, no one can figure out how.
Your medical staff were too inexperienced to recognize covid and let that gentleman die last year through ignorance.
You seem to think if you ignore it it’s not really there. Soon Grenada will begin to weep like the rest of the world if you don’t make your government at the very least start testing on a regular basis at NO COST to locals.
As to mask wearing, by September, October last year security at the malls didn’t care and didn’t enforce wearing masks even when you approached them about persons.
So if you don’t want to wear masks anymore at least get vaccinated .
What is this back and forth?? If you cant see what really is happing here then God help you.
Wheather your not you have been vaxxed you still can
get covid
Die from covid
Pass on covid
Transmit it and so forth
Even if its less chance in a vaxxed person… the point is!! Vaxxed people are still part of the “problem”
So STOP only talking and blaming none vaxxed people.
It’s not just that the “chance is less” for vaxxed people, the “chance” is EXPONENTIALLY less. These people didn’t even know they had it! I’d much rather get a mild case of Covid than be in the ICU with a tube down my throat. But ok, you have a right to refuse. We won’t stay in this bubble much longer, though, so the choice to get vaxxed or not will have real consequences just now…
are you mad!!!! This delta variant will go through Grenada at pace and you will see non vaxed people dying one after the other, yes vaxed people will still catch it and transmit it but its highly unlikely they will die.
make some good choices don’t follow us in the US
Currently the pandemic is seeing 97% hospitalized patients are UNVACCINATED! Lets stop arguing , VACCINATE to prevent death and serious illness, is that not a good thing??
Look at the pattern here which we seems to overlook when presenting our stats .
People of Grenada get real and start random testing of your citizens to get a true an accurate status of your citizens.
Only testing visitors is not the only method. of getting your figures correct.
For the WHO those figures may be acceptable but they are not accurate.
The pattern is the latest cases are citizens of Grenada not visitors
It is more than wearing face mask MoH. Come on now. 2nd time. When will you revert from this ridiculous 48 hour hold. That person spent exactly 7 days in Grenada and that is when the virus was able to show up which is what the science says …between 7 to 10 days. We followed this science all last year and now all of a sudden a vaccine change the same science. Come on now. The virus is still the virus with it without the vaccine people should remain in quarantine for at least 5 to 7 days. What are you waiting for, an outbreak to then change from 48 hours.
People are not following the rules. Vaccinated people walking around like the invisible. I have seen these SGU students refusing to wear masks. I see many foreigners in Spiceland mall these last few days even locals too and they all casually walking into the mall without mask… no security… and all through the mall. I went to the bank people enter with masks and while they sitting to be attended they pull the mass under their chin. People could very well be asymptomatic and spreading the virus. Things are just loose here. Only God can help us to not have a severe outbreak.
No. You need to be vaccinated for at least two weeks. But we are letting in people with one day vaccinated status. This is utter rubbish. Also the PCR tests are NOT 100% accurate. What this means is that we are “inviting” the very lethal Delta variant into our country. How can decision makers behave so irresponsibly? But wait a minute: the majority of Grenadians elected them. All of you made your bed – time come for all of you to go lie in it!!!
Travelors have to be vaccinated for 2 weeks after their 2nd dose before ghey can travel. Unvaccinated Grenadians have to undergo 7 day quarantine
What kind of dotishness is going on here! Clearly the period of time to detect a positive result is longer than the 2 days mandatory quarantine. It’s obvious!
This will continue to happen whereby persons will enter and test positive because it is too early to detect the virus on these “vaccinated” persons.
These people are putting us in some serious trouble. It only now start! Get it right!
Notice the increase after allowing only VAXXED in.
Two of the three people identified with the Delta variant were unvaccinated. I have never seen any figures from previous cases that say whether they were vaccinated or unvaccinated so we don’t know. Of course all the new arrivals will be vaccinated or they cannot come into the country. We all know that even if you are vaccinated there is a small chance of contracting Covid but the symptoms will be less severe & usually asymptomatic. We do not know how many cases may be in the local population because so few tests have been carried out.
Alpha variant or Delta variant with these most recent 3 cases?
We won’t know for a while, I don’t think the tests are done here. The three that were tested on 26th July did not get the variant results until a couple of days ago.
Surely Delta, it is widespread
