- 3 positive cases among persons who left Grenada on repatriation flight for Trinidad
- Persons here since March and most likely contracted from an unknown asymptomatic person
Health Minister, Nickolas Steele, has confirmed that 3 of the individuals who left Grenada on a repatriation flight for Trinidad on Wednesday with Caribbean Airlines, have tested positive for Covid-19.
“Yes, it’s true, we have been in contact with Trinidad and we have already begun our contact tracing for the 3. It’s a massive undertaking but we have no choice,” Steele said on Friday.
Health officials have made it a policy not to disclose names nor the location of positive cases, but when asked if any of the 3 were among the students who left or among the other persons on the flight, the Health Minister said that they were not students. “These were people who were at various locations all over Grenada. They were here since March and so we can only conclude that they most likely got it from an unknown asymptomatic person,” he said.
One of the 23 laboratory-confirmed cases in Grenada was an asymptomatic individual who came from the USA in March. That person was diagnosed almost one month after the island had shut down its airport to commercial passenger traffic.
Steele said that the diagnosing of the 3 who are presently in quarantine in Trinidad is a reminder that there are asymptomatic persons walking around and are most likely spreading the virus to other persons. “And it’s for this reason we are stressing and urging every citizen to wear a mask or an appropriate face covering when in public as well as abide with the social distancing and other health protocols,” he said.
“We are Covid-19 free presently because we have not had a laboratory confirmed case since May, but we are very conscious that this virus is out there in the world,” Steele said as he made a plea for persons who are display flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention.
The public transportation, the buses are packing the buses, should someone sneeze or cough, we’re all going to get it. No social distancing. I’m really worried for Grenada.
I am ashamed of my fellow Trinidadian nationals who had broken the law and some how found their way into that island of Grenada which is almost one year after my visit to that island last August 20th-24th with my family. And the borders had been closed to prevent anyone from entering or leaving it to prevent the spread of this covid-19 coronavirus. For they had raised the case here in Trinidad to 136.
Who said it had party on bathway? Music was plahin fron peoples private vehicles. Many was drinking. Who went r
To have a bath. Etc yall only seeing bathway yall didn’t see the crowd at ssu fitness club in pearls yesterday ? I swear it’ was soca monarch. Smh stop being in bathway only, what about the other beach where the pm was last Sunday it had big dj set and many people. Have u noticed at the fitness club yesterday nobody wore mask there was no 6 ft and even the minister kate Lewis was spotted at the very front in a pink t shirt
Well you know the old saying, quote Do As i Say but don’t do as i do and hey is this not the way Grenada is currently being run , for ministers including the Pm should show and lead by example but again it could be the old saying The Servant and his Master.
What happened at bathway was all over social media for everyone to see! It was wrong. Anyone engaging in that kind of activity no matter who and where is wrong! End of story. No need to “but what about this and who and whatever else.” We need to be more responsible for our actions and stop being so naive and letting our guards down so soon.
Covid does not exist except in your mind. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Well so much for that safe green zone…
This demonstrates how important it is to avoid complacency at this critical time. Many people are taking off their masks because they believe there is no virus on the island. There may yet be many asymptomatic carriers spreading the virus. Please, all, continue to wear our masks, wash our hands, and maintain our distance, especially indoors! We have done too well to risk community spread now! Be safe, stay well!
Exactly. Well said. This is why I am disturbed by those making an issue to come to vacation at this time. You could be an asymptomatic carrier. Also, it is alarming that we allowed those from Trindad to go home without quarantine. What if they are asymptomatic carriers. We have to be really careful. Many of our citizens are taking it lightly; the first chance curfew is lifted they had party in bathway. There could very well be other asymptomatic persons and even sick ones that are not reporting their condition.
