- Reports of community threats and insults to families affected by Covid-19
- Anarchy and insensitivity are not who we are
- Covid-19 does not discriminate
Family members of persons who are affected by Covid-19 (coronavirus) are said to be experiencing bullying and discriminatory practices from persons in the communities where they reside.
“We have reports from the families of those affected by the coronavirus, that they have been threatened and insulted in their communities,” Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell, disclosed during a news conference on Monday.
Making an appeal for those engaging in the unkind practice to stop, the prime minister described the act as insensitive and one that could result in affected persons adopting revenge tactics. “We have to keep our distance, yes, let us not go down to the road to anarchy and insensitivity; this is not who we are.” Dr Mitchell stated that Covid-19 does not discriminate and anyone can be affected because the enemy is unseen.
Worldwide millions are infected, and thousands have died from Covid-19 which was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.
“The fight against Covid-19 is only as strong as our weakest link. In fact, always bear in mind that those of us whom you are taunting today as your neighbours for having the virus, your turn might come tomorrow. We don’t know what the future holds for any one of us. Your turn could be on now and you do not know,” he said in his opening remarks at the news conference which was broadcast on the Government Information Service (GIS) Facebook page.
“I make a strong appeal on behalf of all our citizens and in particular our affected families to anyone engaging in such disturbing behaviour to cease and desist from such negativity. This is not who we are,” he said.
Health officials have disclosed that to date Grenada has tested 45 persons for Covid-19. Twelve confirmations have been mainly described as imported or import-related, because they came into the country, or were exposed to the virus by the people who entered the country on international flights from the US and UK from the week of 15 March.
Government has not publicly disclosed the location of the confirmed cases.
We need people to ba able to access gas and money to go shopping. Some people live in the mountains. Some people don’t have debit cards. ATM’s empty anyway.
Let people phone their list to supermarkets – especially elderly and have their stuff delivered. Especially in country.
We need fisherfolk to be working – they and farmers can organise vans to deliver to households – one at a time.
We have to get creative.
If you’ll were in China you’ll wouldn’t be taking that foolishness
It’s a dam shame for people to show hatred. It is also for others to show a lack of responsibility of not taking responsibility in protecting them selves by staying home and wear protecting equipment like a mask and gloves if they need to leave the house. But what makes matters worst is when government and the private sector put capitalism over health. The USA should shut down completely. No one in the street, no transportation, industrials close down. Shut down the globe economy, for a week. The only institutions that should be operating, should be the medical profession, law enforcement and fire department and the military as home security. Other then that shut down for a week or so. If not this virus is going to last past the fall and million more will die. This my opinion.
Saying this is not who we are doesn’t make any sense… This is how man kind really is… When stricken by plagues or anything that is life threatening we tend to turn on each other… Taking out our frustration on others to deal with the irritation of be locked up or have limited freedom… This is what we humans are in general… This is what we true colors are when faced with life or death situation… They may not show it but this is what been hidden all the years and now with the plague spreading its reach throughout this world it surfaces…
As a high risk individual who hasn’t anyone to shop for me, I had to shop . I wore the mask and gloves and you would think I had done something wrong or someone with a plaque! The cashier avoided eye contact while the man bagging my food kept laughing and rolling his eyes! And this was just the employees. The general public wasn’t any better.
True man open money gram and western union it’s hard enough already why should we poor people suffer any more.
And on the NO SHOPPING DAYS SUPPlIERS SHOULD BE STOCKING RETAILERS.
Please give us the opportunity to revive our allowances via western union and money gram,
We rely on this money’s as it is how we pay our bills and buy our food.
Please we are hungry.
Come on!!! This is insensitive and unseemly…this is not the way….you could get this awful disease….it doesn’t discriminate so neither should you…we suffer enough discrimination in everyday life from all areas. Please!!
