- First Covid-19 patient deteriorating
- Moved from isolation to receive treatment at General Hospital
- 50-year-old Grenadian-born female, became symptomatic on Tuesday, 17 March
48 hours after confirming that Grenada had its first case of Covid-19, Health Minister Nickolas Steele has confirmed that the patient was on Tuesday moved from isolation to receive treatment at the General Hospital. “Her situation has deteriorated, and she is receiving treating at the General Hospital,” Steele said late Tuesday evening.
The passenger arrived in Grenada on 16 March from the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic aircraft. The minister made the announcement in a special news conference on Sunday, 22 March 2020.
The patient who is a 50-year-old Grenadian-born female, became symptomatic on Tuesday, 17 March and was subsequently tested. At the time of announcing the island’s first confirmation, Steele said that the patient was displaying mild symptoms.
More than two dozen persons in Grenada have been tested for the virus and as of Tuesday, there were no additional positive results.
On the weekend a medical team from Cuba arrived on the island to assist with the fight of Covid-19.
Grenada in recent times has implemented and enforced several measures as part of its strategy to combat the disease which has killed and infected thousands worldwide.
Measures include stopping of all commercial air traffic at the Maurice Bishop International Airport and not allowing any pleasure or live-in boats at ports of entry. The exception is for medical personnel and medication supplies.
Why are people traveling now.? Also why are so many new Yorkers coming to Florida. They don’t like governor Coumo orders.? they decide to get to Florida and make the state sicker.. Stay in New York.. THINK OF OTHERS.
TO ALL GRENADIANS DO NOT BE COMPLACENT AT THIS TIME.
TAKE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS NOW !
PROTECT YOURSELF AND THE PUBLIC FROM THE SPREAD OF THIS DEADLY VIRUS
WHICH IS RAMPANT ALL OVER THE WORLD .
SOME COUNTRIES ARE NOW IN LOCKDOWN AND OTHERS ARE FOLLOWING BEHIND.
GRENADA PLEASE TAKE HEED.
I think people that are traveling should stay were there at .and I think we should look into wat is called the pandemic guides and it’s an email that got sent to me and I’ve been showing alot of people couse let me tell you the worse is yet to come and even at that these people like the us Marshalls and the national guard aren’t telling us alot of thing pretty soon there going to start scanning use like on that movie out brake the way I see it and as far as everybody going out of control with everything and not thinking of other ,well wat they should of done is limited everything in the first place wen they first found out,and the way I see it take it seriously but don’t panic couse wen you panic things get out of control.hope everyone stays safe.
May the Almighty God protect us against this deadly disease, and give us the grace to know what it takes to fight and overcome this coVID19 pandemic.
We all gona be infected & sick its not a matter of yes ir no,mark my words by the end of september 95% of the world population will be infected
Are you a scientist or a doctor? Even the best scientist do not know many people will be infected worldwide, never mind when.
These doomsday predictions do not help anyone, the best way to end this virus, is to self-isolate and practice physical distancing.
Wide scale testing, stay-at-home orders, hospital beds and other medical supplies, and financial assistance as the economy shuts down: we need these right now.
Your beautiful island and people hold a special place in my heart. I was last there as an 18 year old paratrooper in the fall of 1983 and through the following decades have followed your nations curremnt events. I hope you all remain safe and sound.
It about time the island go on lockdown. It is too risky to go to work using public transportation…one cannot have a 6ft distancing…I am really fed up…
I wonder if the patient is isolated at the hospital for treatment. If not they are exposing others to this virus and the decision to move her to a public hospital was not a smart idea.
I’m sure she is in isolation. She was most likely moved to the ICU because the facility she was in did not have the capability to treat her. Now they must do social contact tracing before the virus spreads.
It won’t matter now. Infected woman from the UK, one Grenadian get it, walks around and takes the bus for a week. Her whole town gets it, They are spreading it around today. Brace for the storm people
Sad to hear that. But the decisions taken by the Government so far have been correct and must continue to safeguard the people of the Tri Islands. Maybe now the situation which is out of control in the rest of the world will be taken seriously!
Yes. Take it very serious. I’m in New York State which is now the epicenter in the U.S. States are acting independently because Federal Government has not stepped up. The States who take it seriously are doing the best they can but other States are not following suit. Pray that Trump takes it seriously and changes his mind since he is talking about reopening the entire country by Easter. Loss of life is not worth the GDP and should never be equated as the same.
