Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell met with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada, His Excellency, Zhao Yongchen on Tuesday, 28 January to discuss the outbreak of the coronavirus and the steps being taken to protect Grenadians in China, particularly the city of Wuhan.
The Prime Minister was advised that on Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with the Grenadian Ambassador and other diplomats in China to provide an update on the outbreak.
Dr Mitchell welcomed this and called for ongoing updates. He said, “There should be regular updates shared through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Parents and relatives of students have been expressing concern and government needs to be kept abreast of the measures being put in places to address the outbreak so that we can ensure their continued well-being.”
Ambassador Zhao assured the Prime Minister that the Chinese Government is taking the outbreak very seriously and a multiplicity of measures is being explored to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
He highlighted the lockdown that was instituted, saying the residents of Wuhan are not allowed to leave. Speaking specifically about the Grenadian students in Wuhan, Ambassador Zhao said it is not recommended that they leave.
The Ambassador referred to a China Daily news article which quoted State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi as saying, “The Chinese government stays committed to protecting the lives and health of the Chinese people, and also treats foreigners in China, including Japanese, in the same way, and addresses their legitimate concerns in a timely manner.” The same article also quotes Minister Wang as saying that China will step up communication and coordination with the international community to curb the spread.
The Government of Grenada will continue to closely monitor the coronavirus outbreak and seek to ensure the continued well-being of Grenadians in China.

I am confused, Grenada is allowing Chinese nationals who became Grenadian citizens for the right price to run away from China with this disease BUT Keith Mitchell is now listening to Chinese representatives as to why they should leave born Grenadians in F…King CHINA? Ladies and Gentlemen the only FOOLS that are leaving their people there are the African and Caribbean leaders, my God, I guess the price is right, China cannnot get America,England, Germany etc to leave their people there BUT the black foolish leaders are willing to sacrifice their own people for he right price? So so sad, M Mitchell aim to be better remembered in life for something else not for selling you soul for money.
Other countries are getting their citizens out of China but we are sending our people into China. how Grenadians brave so?
It sure doesn’t seem wise to let a flight from China enter right now period without quarantine!?
Yes. I’m posting again. I’m that angry. Not only is it unwise to let a flight in from China without quarantine at this time when Coronavirus is spreading, and health experts worldwide are already throwing around words like “global epidemic”, it is an atrocity against the people of Grenada. Truly, I’m surprised at the absence of a major public outcry against this action; against this ‘dontcare’ attitude of Grenada’s elected officials who are entrusted with the welfare and safety of their constituents among other things. There is worried whispering going on in pockets here and there, and folks are wondering why that flight came in at 2:00 a.m. while natives slept, but I suppose no one dares speak truth to power.
It’s a sad commentary on our leaders and ourselves, and it’s a crying shame.
:((( oh dear.
It’s further proof that the folks in charge are willing to sacrifice the health of Grenadian citizens if the price is right. First World countries are putting Chinese coming into their countries in quarantine for 14 days.
Grenada? No. “Bring me your sick and contagious willing to donate.”
Keith will not say about the the Chinese that came 2am . He is hiding that they come like a thief in the morning .Idiotic prime minister Keith Mitchell no country takes them he turn a fool now for the country grenada.
Ok but what about the direct flight from China which arrived 3am this morning???
