Aaron Francois, Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, is the new Supervisor of Elections.
He took up the post effective 1 October 2013, and replaces Judy Benoit who was appointed to the post by former Governor-General Sir Carlyle Glean in 2009. Francois is no stranger to the post, as he acted in the position for one month during 2012 while Benoit was on sick leave.
On Wednesday, Francois said that he was not yet fully briefed on the activities of the Office, but among his responsibilities is to ensure that all persons who are eligible to register do so and not wait for a declared election period.
“The law provides for ongoing registration and it means that once a person turns 18, he or she can go and get registered at the relevant office,” he said.
