Grenada will from 21-23 March host a 3-day regional workshop aimed at identifying specific opportunities for technical support and possibilities for financial support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the areas of readiness and project development.
Titled “Opportunities for technical and financial support to respond to the impacts of climate change in fisheries, aquaculture and coastal management and to promote Blue Growth”, the workshop is supported by the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), with the collaboration of the Climate Change Adaptation of the Eastern Caribbean Fisheries (CC4FISH) Project of the FAO, and organised by Grenada’s Blue Innovation Institute, Inc. (BII). It will bring together representatives from Green Climate Fund – National Designated Authorities (NDA) and senior officials from Ministries of Fisheries from 12 Caribbean countries, as well as, technical experts from the FAO, the Secretariat of the GCF, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and a range of regional entities and research institutions for interactive sessions at the Radisson Convention Centre.
The overall objectives of the workshop are to:
- Build capacity in the Caribbean to effectively engage with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the areas of readiness and project development
- Bring together NDAs with Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries officials to consider opportunities for Readiness and project development in the fisheries and aquaculture sector and identify opportunities for Blue Growth
- Develop a draft work plan for how FAO can assist countries in the Caribbean to respond to the impacts of climate change on agriculture, coastal management, fisheries and aquaculture and Blue Growth how GCF Readiness and project development can be utilised.
FAO hopes that the workshop will provide a better understanding of countries’ needs and capabilities, so as to assist them to better respond to the increasing and significant impacts of climate change on the fisheries and aquaculture sector and in coastal zones, as well as to identify opportunities in the area of Blue Growth.
