Cleaning and preparing for sale their day’s fish catch in the open and on the outside, will soon be a thing of the past for the fisherfolk of Windward and surrounding communities, with work steadily progressing on the construction of a new fish centre in Windward.
Upon completion of the modern state-of-the-art facility, the fisherfolks will have access to proper cleaning stalls in a sanitary environment.
The main structure of the building has been completed and painting is taking place.
This project is the brainchild of Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews who noted the importance of the fishing sector to the community, including its contribution to domestic food security and self-sufficiency.
When finished, the new Windward Fish Centre will be equipped with an ice-making machine, lockers and storage facility for fishermen and women.
