The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association, Grenada Cocoa Association and the Minor Spices Co-operative, invites all farmers to register their interest to participate in the spice replanting programme.
The spices targeted are:
- Nutmeg
- Cocoa
- Pimento
- Cinnamon
- Bois Bande
- Bay Leaf (boisden)
- Clove
- Black Pepper
- Sapote
- Tonka bean
Registration forms can be obtained from Monday, 13 November at cocoa and nutmeg stations, agricultural district offices, Minor Spices at Laura and some popular shops.
Approximately 150 farmers will be targeted under this phase of the project. They will be given assistance to clear new land for planting, labour to rehabilitate existing fields, and support with fertiliser for new plants.
The ministry advises that the processing of applicants will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis and for those who meet the selection criteria. As such, farmers are urged to complete the registration forms and return them as soon as possible.
The Ministry of Agriculture further advises that a National Spice Planting Day is scheduled for 29 November 2023.
