Sandals Grenada Resort and Spa is dedicated to attaining environmental and social sustainability.
Our actions are guided by the Sandals Earth Guard Corporate Sustainability Policy of Sandals Resorts International, as well as by the natural, social, and cultural context in which we operate.
Sandals Grenada, a luxury all-inclusive resort spanning 17 acres at Grenada’s southern-most tip in St George’s parish, boasts 257 rooms and suites across 4 villages. The resort is located along Pink Gin beach; guests enjoy 51 pools, 29 hot tubs and a dive pool. With 10 restaurants, 7 bars, water and land sports, a jewellery outlet, plus meeting and conference facilities, sauna and steam rooms at the Redlane Spa, the resort offers a comprehensive experience.
Acknowledging the resort’s surroundings and amenities, we prioritise safeguarding the delicate flora and fauna of our ecosystem. Sustainability is integral to our values and policies at Sandals Grenada. Through various initiatives encompassing energy, water, waste, and ecosystem management, we actively contribute to a safer and more sustainable environment.
Sandals Grenada utilises advanced technologies to conserve resources, including faucet aerators, low-flush toilets, and potable water recycling. We also operate a towel reuse program in guest rooms and recycle laundry water daily on-site, alongside employee awareness training. Through our philanthropic arm, the Sandals Foundation, we’re committed to preserving and nurturing our environment. This includes efforts in invasive species management, tree conservation, and coral reef restoration.
Sandals Grenada Resort & Spa remains in collaboration with EarthCheck, an International Environmental Management institution aiding companies in tracking their ecological footprint. Achieving EarthCheck Certified Gold status in May 2023, the resort has maintained this distinction for 6 consecutive years, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the EarthCheck’s standards.
Over the past year, the resort has focused on and accomplished the following sustainability initiatives:
- Continued spread of environmental awareness to internal consumers and surrounding communities in an effort to achieve waste reduction and utility management
- Decreased energy consumption (electricity, stationary and mobile fuels) per guest night by 7.57%
- Decreased waste sent to the landfill by 26.3%
- Decreased portable water consumption by 7.9%
Over the next 12 months we are committed to:
- Water Conservation and Efficiency: reduce the consumption of Water by 5% total consumption
- Energy Conservation and Efficiency: reduce the consumption of Electricity by 5% total consumption
- Waste Management: reduce waste sent to the landfill by 15% by improving our waste separation programme
The resort will adhere to all pertinent legislation and regulations to uphold international best practices. Sandals Grenada has designated the Environment, Health and Safety Manager as the Sustainability Champion, tasked with supervising the sustainability programme. We ensure that our policies and practices are communicated to stakeholders, including contractors and local communities.
We prioritise the employment and empowerment of local staff through investment in training and development, facilitated by Sandals Corporate University. Whenever feasible, we procure environmentally sustainable products and services locally, aligning with Fair Trade principles. Our commitment to the local community is evident through ongoing outreach initiatives by both the resort and the Sandals Foundation. Sandals Grenada actively encourages team members to volunteer and engage in sustainability endeavours both on-site and within neighbouring communities.
The resort will uphold its certified status within the EarthCheck programme by engaging guests, suppliers, and stakeholders in efforts to reduce our consumption of natural resources, including water and energy. We remain committed to safeguarding the local environment through ongoing conservation efforts.
