Senator the Honourable Claudette Joseph, Attorney General, Minister for Legal Affairs, Labour & Consumer Affairs, on 15 May led a team to Carriacou on an outreach initiative to continue stakeholder engagement towards the revamping of Grenada’s minimum wage order.

As a continuation of the ‘We Care Initiative, ’ the team will also meet with workers and employers.

The team will be in Carriacou from 15–17 May 2023 and will meet with a series of key stakeholders and senior government officials during this period.

This collaborative effort is part of the government’s wider plan to engage with citizens on matters of policy change, social reform, and development. Clear guidelines will be implemented to increase sensitisation and interaction, focusing on strengthening labour management in Carriacou, streamlining the work permit process, and educating citizens on consumer protection laws.

As part of the 3-day engagement, the public is asked to tune in to Kim the King Radio Show on Tuesday, 16 May at 10:30 am for an engaging conversation with Sen. the Hon. Claudette Joseph and Dr Curlan Gilchrist, Chairman of the Minimum Wage Advisory Committee, where the team will unpack the significance of the trip to Carriacou at this juncture.

The public is also invited to join the minimum wage discussion at a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, from 6 pm at Hillsborough Secondary School. Additionally, the Office of Local Government will be hosting an open house, Labour and Consumer Affairs Clinic, on Wednesday, 17 May 2023. The team of professionals at the Labour and Consumer Affairs Clinic will be available to give advice on these matters.

The Minister and her delegation look forward to these interactions in Carriacou as the team endeavours to strengthen relationships with stakeholders of the Ministry and to improve the level of service.

Minister Joseph reiterated that “It is important for us to reach out to our stakeholders to let them know that we care, and that we are here to serve. This is an opportune moment for me to personally hear from all parties what they deem would be helpful, as we move forward on their behalf.”
