- Emmalin Pierre is new NNP Public Relations Officer
- Elected at the 2018 convention last Sunday
Until the 2019 annual convention of the ruling New National Party (NNP), Emmalin Pierre will be the face of the party. At the 2018 convention last Sunday, she was elected to be the Public Relations Officer.
Held at the Grenada Boys Secondary School, hundreds of delegates from all constituencies gathered to discuss the work of the party since it was re-elected in March, and to vote in a new executive.
“The only change was [we] elected a new public relations officer,” said Labour Relations Officer, Winston Garraway. Pierre replaces Simon Stiell.
The other executive members elected during the closed session are:
- Gregory Bowen – Chairman
- Clarice Modeste – Deputy Chairman
- Political leader – Keith Mitchell
- Deputy Political Leader – Elvin Nimrod
- General Secretary – Roland Bhola
- Assistant General Secretary – Peter David
- Treasurer – Anthony Boatswain
- Recording Secretary – Steve Horsford
- Deputy Recording Secretary – David Stan Phillip.
There are also 6 floor members: Kenneth Noel, Cletus St Paul, Oswald Gilbert, Bartholomew Baptiste, Carlton Frederick and Bertrand John.
The convention concluded with an open session in which executive members with cabinet portfolios and or other high-ranking members of party addressing the delegates and the wider public on government plans and policies for the upcoming year.
Besides providing updates on some government projects, the key message from all the speakers was for persons to get out and vote yes in the 6 November referendum. This referendum seeks to make the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) the island’s final appellate court. At present, the final appellate court is the Privy Council in London.
Two-thirds of all votes cast must say yes for that change to become a reality. Almost 80,000 persons are qualified to participate in the polls.
