The Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm, Sandals Resorts International and Scholastic, and the world’s leading publisher of children’s books, Scholastic, continue to deliver on their promise to help improve the literacy of children in Grenada.
Last Thursday, some members of the Sandals team took their weekly Reading Road Trip to Concord Government School and donated 6 boxes of books. Thereafter, the team delivered books to St Joseph’s RC School (Morne Jaloux) and South St George Government School (Springs).
Director of Programs for the Sandals Foundation Heidi Clarke said, “Our partnership with Scholastic strengthens our program and improves our reach in this drive of ours to promote literacy and stimulate learning. The books donated are all brand new. They have been carefully selected for various age groups; they are wonderfully illustrated and physically durable. There’s no such thing as a child who does not like reading, they are just reading the wrong books. So here we are to deliver some of the right books.”
This is not the first contribution of the Sandals Foundation to the Concord Government School; last January, the Sandals Foundation assisted with the construction of a box drain and fencing a poorly irrigated area of the school compound. Principal of the school Mr Gordon Williams thanked the Sandals Foundation for their continued support of the school.
Sandals Foundation and Scholastic Bookfairs joined forces officially in November of 2015 to donate 25,000 books throughout the Caribbean. The Sandals foundation was founded in 2009 by Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals Resorts International and seeks to help fulfil the promise of the Caribbean community through investment in sustainable projects in Education, the Environment and the Community.
