Conception Toastmasters Club invites all Grenadians to its International and Table Topics Speech Contests scheduled for Thursday, 25 February 2016, at the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) Auditorium, Tanteen, St George, commencing at 6 pm.
Conception Toastmasters Club is a member of the worldwide organisation, Toastmasters International. This local club offers a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. Speech contests are an important part of the Toastmasters educational programme, as they provide an opportunity for Toastmasters to gain speaking experience, as well as an opportunity for other Toastmasters to learn by observing proficient speakers. Additionally, attendees will have a forum to observe same proficient speakers.
“It is possible to overcome the fear of public speaking. Using the Toastmasters International curriculum model, dozens of our Members over the years have become competent communicators, advancing to many levels of mastery. Our speech competition is simply another attempt for our Members to stretch themselves as public speakers.” says Dawn Peters, CC, Club President for the local Conception Toastmasters Club.
For the International Speech segment, competitors are responsible for writing and delivering an original speech and will be judged in the areas which include but not limited to delivery, use of stage and body language. Likewise, competitors in the Table Topics category will be expected to deliver an impromptu speech on a random topic chosen by the Table Topics Master of the evening.
This annual event gives members an opportunity to showcase their skills and competence as public speakers. Successful participants who advance to the next levels will have the opportunity to provide positive exposure for Grenada on the regional and international stage.
