The Market Access and Rural Enterprise Development Programme (MAREP) is embarking on a series of exchange visits planned for 2015. Five farmers from MAREP’s beneficiaries have travelled to Trinidad to be trained in aquaculture and hydroponics. MAREP has partnered with the Ministry of Food Production (Agriculture Now Training Unit) in Trinidad, to expose these young persons to sustainable agriculture methodologies.
This 10-day training programme comprises of practical and theoretical components. Upon completion of the training, the participants will receive a certificate of participation/completion from the Agriculture Now Training Unit in Trinidad.
Once the participants return to Grenada they are expected to participate in the compilation of a training manual in the area of aquaculture and hydroponics, and to train other MAREP beneficiaries interested in this field of study. Additionally they will seek to implement the training they have received on their respective farms with continued support from MAREP.
MAREP is proud to be embarking on this exchange as part of the programme’s commitment to agriculture crop farm modernization, and production and income increases, as well as its commitment to create enterprises for agro-processing and tourism services.
