Grenada’s lone electricity service provider, GRENLEC, has been supportive of the Carriacou Maroon Music Festival since its inception, and has no exception for the 2015 celebrations.
GRENLEC, through its Community Partnership Initiative (GCPI) programme, seeks to positively impact community development through partnership with community and stakeholder development initiatives in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
On Monday, through GRENLEC’s CPI program, a contribution of EC$10,000.00 was handed over to the Carriacou Maroon Music Festival Committee to assist in the staging of this year’s festival.
GRENLEC’s Carriacou Branch Manager, Mr Wallace Collins, said that GRENLEC will always remain committed and proud of being part of such a unique event which is indigenous to Carriacou, and focuses on celebrating its rich history and culture. He also added that with the month of April being celebrated as Heritage Month, Grenlec found it fitting to make their contribution then.
Mr Collins is hoping that GRENLEC’s contribution will go a very long way towards ensuring 2015’s celebration becomes a success, not only financially, but also culturally.
President of the Carriacou Maroon Music Festival Committee, Ms Faithlyn George, in receiving the contribution expressed heartfelt thanks to GRENLEC for their much needed support.
Ms George said that this $10,000.00 contribution will definitely add some power to the celebration of the Carriacou Maroon Music Festival 2015.
The 2015 Carriacou Maroon Music Festival is carded for 24 to 26 April.
