The Royal Grenada Police Force is appealing to all persons and auto mechanics who have engaged themselves in operating illegal roadside ‘garages’ and or repair work to refrain from doing so immediately.
Section 9 of the Motor Vehicle Repair Shops and Garages Act, Chapter 200 of Volume 9 of the 2010 Continuous Revised Laws, states that it is an offence for anyone to operate a repair shop or garage without a licence.
Persons engaged in this practice are warned that not only is it illegal but it also causes inconvenience to road users, obstruction to the free flow of traffic and can even lead to accidents. Besides, it can contribute to the degrading of the environment especially when it comes to disposal of vehicle waste such as used oil.
Persons are further reminded that Section 27 of the Roads Act Chapter 290 of Volume 13 of the 2010 Continuous Revised Laws prohibits any road to be obstructed or encroached upon by any fence, gate, tree, brushwood, ditch, trench, enclosure or thing. In violation, a person is liable, on conviction, to a fine of one thousand dollars, in addition to all costs and expenses incurred (Sec 45 of the Roads Act Chapter 290 of Volume 13 of the 2010 Continuous Revised Laws).
