Grenada has been chosen as the host nation for the 1st International Tennis Federation (ITF) Caribbean Tennis Coaches Conference, scheduled for 7-10 October, 2014 at the Grenadian by Rex Resorts in Point Salines.
The conference forms a very important element of the ITF’s coaching education programme and is being organised by the ITF in conjunction with the Caribbean and Central American Tennis Confederation and the Grenada Tennis Association, with support from the bank BNP Paribas and Olympic Solidarity.
The conference is open to all tennis coaches from the Caribbean region, and so far, 20 tennis coaches have expressed their interest in taking part in the conference. There is no limit to the number of entries from each country.
According to Earl Charles, President of the Grenada Tennis Association, an opportunity will be given to Grenadian tennis coaches and to primary schools physical education teachers to be involved in conducting the Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) Programme in Grenada, in an attempt to improve the coaching standard in the nation.
Presenters who are due to make presentations include ITF experts Mike Barrell (UK), ITF travelling coach Dermot Sweeney (Zambia), Dr Sonia Johnson (Grenada), member of the Regional Anti-Doping Agency, Frank Couraud (France), former ITF Development Officer for the English speaking Caribbean now based in London with ITF office, and John Goede (Suriname), who is the present ITF Development Officer for the English speaking Caribbean.
