LaBoucan Creative Arts Centre, located at the Villa, St George’s, has embarked on a theatre-in-education project: the production of a courtroom drama entitled ‘What’s Your Verdict.’ A special preview performance and discussion will be held on Tuesday 17 June at the Grenada National Museum (GNM) on Young Street, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
The cast comprises a team of young actors and actresses who will be making their debut performance in a major drama.
This play, written and directed by LaBoucan’s Artistic Director, Francis Urias Peters, was first staged in Grenada in 1992 and addresses two main issues, youth violence and sexual offences, with specific focus on incest.
Peters uses theatre as his main tool to address health and social issues. He intends to take this production to schools, churches and other communities throughout the tri-island state as part of his company’s continuing effort to address social issues through the Performing Arts.
In 2012, the college recognised Peters as one of its top 50 outstanding alumni from the Drama School of the Edna Manley College of Visual & Performing Arts, Jamaica as part of the college’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
